July 30, Day 6

We got up early the next day to drive back to Athens. After dumping our stuff off at Carrie's and throwing a load of laundry in, we headed to the Saturday market. Carrie goes every week, and it was fun to see her interacting with her favorite stand owners. My favorite stand, of course, was the olives. I'm so glad this trip was now and not 5 years ago, because it has only been recently that I've come to love olives. And really, what is Greece without it's amazing olives?!

The olive stand owner let us try our hand at serving. Fun.

As we were buying cherries and peaches, we met a lovely woman named Angela. She was Greek, but had lived many years in Australia and now that her husband was gone, she moved back home to Greece. After she invited Carrie to visit her some time at her house (#71 on the same street as the market), we decided that she was Carrie's Greek yaya and she had to make good friends. As it turns out, Carrie ran into Angela again in the post office on our last day. I think this could be a fun friendship for them.

There was much to eat and buy at the market. Here's Jill with souvlaki.

After the market, we drove to Sounion, the town with the Temple of Poseidon. It was a beautiful spot overlooking, of course, the sea.

After we walked around a bit, we headed to a local beach and then came back to the temple for sunset.

A beautiful evening. Another great day!
